Wildcats announce coaching change

The Elliot Lake Wildcats announced today that they have a new Head Coach and General Manager. Taureen White, formerly of the Nepean Raiders of the CCHL, will take over duties effective immediately and is expected to be behind the bench for the Wildcats game against the Rayside Balfour Canadians on Friday night (December 6th).

White replaces former GM/Coach Gord Ouimet, who was let go after a disappointing start to the 2019/2020 season. Club President George Thomas stated “We appreciate Gord’s efforts to get the

team organized in challenging circumstances, but unfortunately we just haven’t seen the results we were hoping for and the Board felt it was time for a change. We didn’t make this decision lightly, but we owe the players, their parents, fans, sponsors and the community at large the best hockey product possible and we believe Taureen can deliver that for us.” Thomas added “We would like to publicly thank Gord for stepping in during a tough time for the Club and we wish him all the best in the future.”

Taureen is a native of Nepean and his previous experience includes an associate coaching position with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL, the Head Coach/GM of the Swan Valley Stampeders of the MJHL as well as the Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations with the Kingston Voyageurs of the OJHL, where he led the Vees to a conference final. Taureen also spent time on the bench with the Battleford Northstars and the Brockville Braves and won a CCHL league title in 2011.

Said Thomas “The Board is excited to see the impact Taureen is going to have on the team and we hope the fans will come out and show their support.”

The Wildcats next game is Friday December 6th at the Centennial Arena in Elliot Lake against the Rayside Balfour Canadians – puck drops at 7:30.
