ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Vikings of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League have announced the appointment of Mike Nesbitt as the club’s new head coach and general manager.
The Oshawa, Ont., product joins the Vikings after spending the past four seasons in a similar capacity with the Comox Valley Glacier Kings of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League, in British Columbia.
Nesbitt guided the Glacier Kings to a fourth place finish in the 11-team VIJHL in 2023-24 with a solid 31-15-1-1 record.
There, his side tied for second overall in fewest goals-allowed in the league and were fourth in goals-scored.
Comox Valley also boasted the best penalty kill percentage in the league at 85.2% and their 23% rate on the power play ranked them fourth.
In the 2024 VIJHL playoffs, the Glacier Kings advanced all the way to the conference final, before falling in seven hard-fought games to the Kerry Park Islanders.
During his time behind the Comox Valley bench, Nesbitt’s teams increased their win total in each of his four campaigns with the club, sporting a 92-49-3-6 mark overall.
