IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – An early outburst helped send the Iroquois Falls Storm on their way to a 6-1 win over the Elliot Lake Vikings Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.
Striking first, Ben Sherwin kept a play in the Elliot Lake zone, which allowed Andre Cho to wheel into the slot and a rip a shot upstairs on Vikings’ netminder Braydon Garnhart at 6:53.
Sherwin then supplied a shorthanded marker off a two-on-one as he waited for an Allan Watt pass then promptly fired it into the bottom right corner for his 15th of the campaign.
A third in the session for Iroquois Falls saw defenceman Krisjanis Fugalis pump a blast, through a screen, from the top of the left circle.
Second period play saw the Vikings get one back when Gabriel Manseau walked into a Nathan Marincola back pass from behind the goal line in the high slot, where he fired it past Storm starter Brodie Haylock.
Getting that back during a man advantage, Patrice Lafontaine opted to shoot on a two-on-one and buried it from the left wing.
Adding another during an additional power play, Landon Tretheway took a pass from Brayden Hindman and snapped it in to give him goals on four straight outings.
Moving to the third, Iroquois Falls added some late insurance via the man advantage to round out the scoring when Max Jugnauth put a pass out from in deep, right to Lucas Peever, who quickly finished it off.
The victory raises the Storm’s record to 16-39-0-3, and with the loss, the Vikings dip to 5-47-1-4.
