Elford strikes late to lift Wildcats past Eskis
IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – David Elford’s 11th goal of the season with 3:30 remaining in regulation was the decider as the Elliot Lake Wildcats edged the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Friday at Jus Jordan Arena.
The game was scoreless until the final minute of the first period when Elliot Lake’s Jacob Kelly collected his 12th of the campaign at 19:02.
Leejay Meguinis upped the Wildcats lead to two six and a half minutes into the middle stanza as he converted during a man advantage opportunity.
Iroquois Falls countered later with tallies 27 seconds apart from Shadow Reuben and Phil Caron to knot the affair at 2-2.
However Elliot Lake regained the lead before the session was complete compliments of an Evan Spencer man advantage marker.
Dillan Bruce drew the Eskis level 6:55 into the third with his 24th of 2016-17, but Elford late goal won it for the Wildcats.
Matt Kostiw was called up on to make 42 saves to record the win for Elliot Lake while Trevor Hawkes faced 34 shots in defeat for Iroquois Falls.
