MASSEY, ON – The Soo Eagles scored four times in the opening period to pace them to a 7-2 victory over the Elliot Lake Vikings at the Massey and District Arena Sunday afternoon.
Benjamin Pouliot and Jack Ohlund paced the Eagles offence with two goals each in the road victory.
The Vikings got on the attack first as Nate Dugwell drove the net on a partial breakaway and beat Anthony Zolezzi who got a piece of the shot for a 1-0 lead at 1:19.
Eagles evened things up as Jack Ohlund’s shot from the left point got through traffic and by Vikings goalie Sam Keene at 9:24 of the first.
Dylan Szabo tapped in his 5th on a nice pass from behind the net by Cooper Fredericks for the Eagles first lead at 13:03.
Just over 30 seconds later the Eagles capitalize on a turnover at the blueline as Benjamin Pouliot ripped home a shot after a nice pass from Tyler Fortson which made it 3-1 at 13:36.
The Eagles did some good work down low late in the period as Jack Paweski found Nolan Hendry in the slot and he wired a perfect shot into the top corner for a 4-1 Eagles lead after 20 minutes.
Pouliot increased the lead with his second of the game on a power play at 4:23 has he recorded his 20th of the season.
The Eagles Alex Freund found the back of the net with an assist to Lucas Caufield at 9:36.
Ohlund netted his second of the game near the midway point of the third to make it 7-1.
The Vikings got one back in the third just over two minutes later when Owen Kahl netted his 7th in the third period to make it 7-2.
The Eagles road win moves them to 24-16-1-1 and the Vikings drop to 5-29-1-4.
