ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Seth Ferguson had a pair of power play goals, including the game-winner, and dished out a pair of assists to help lift the Soo Eagles over the Elliot Lake Red Wings Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Centennial Arena.
Ferguson got his first marker near the midway point of the opening period, only to see Brodie Kearns counter for Elliot Lake with a man advantage effort of his own four and a half minutes later.
Answering that, the Eagles saw Marc Lafrance, with his opening league tally, and Nicholas Castillo, with his second, to give Sault Ste. Marie a 3-1 lead after one.
Each side would strike twice in the middle stanza, all via the power play, as Ferguson and Chase Tallaire sandwiched goals around ones from the Red Wings’ Kearns and Jovani Moses.
The Soo put the game away in the third as Jack Mortson, Tallaire and Tyler Culleton all found the back of the net.
Ryan Gilmore made 38 saves to get the win for the Eagles while Ryder Gregga was extra busy, facing 55 shots against in defeat for the Red Wings.
