ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Scoring four times for his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League hat trick, Tyler Gilberds helped send the Timmins Rock on their way to a 9-1 victory over the Elliot Lake Red Wings Sunday evening at Centennial Arena.
Timmins collected the lone tally of the opening 20 minutes as Justin Charette flipped in his 11th goal of the season with help from Christopher Engelbert and affiliate Bradly Moore, who collected a point in his NOJHL debut.
Coming out strong to commence the middle stanza, the Rock connected just 17 seconds in as Riley Brousseau fired a shot that was stopped by Red Wings’ netminder Colton Donaldson, but the rebound clipped off Tyler Gilberds and fell into the net, giving him 18 markers on the campaign.
Collecting another, Gilberds ripped one upstairs during a man advantage from the right of the net to increase the visitors cushion.
A fourth Timmins tally came when Harry Clark whipped in a one-timer from the slot, while up a skater, then saw Brousseau bank one in from the left of the net moments later to make it 5-0.
Going to the power play, Elliot Lake cracked their goose egg when Alex Antoine caught Rock starter Gavin McCarthy coming off his post and beat him short side from a sharp angle.
However, Gilberds scored once more for his third of the period as he blasted in his hat trick from the left of the net.
In the third, Ryder Gregga began in goal, replacing Donaldson.
Getting a seventh on the night, Timmins converted during a two-man advantage as Tyler Schwindt knocked in a rebound off a Cameron Dutkiewicz point blast for his team-best 31st goal.
They then continued the onslaught midway through the final frame when Gilberds cruised into the Elliot Lake zone and buried his fourth by snapping one from the high slot that beat a partially screened Gregga.
Clark then capped off the romp in the late going to round out the night’s scoring.
