Wildcats edge Eagles in low-scoring affair

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – A Brett Jacklin goal 44 seconds into the third period was the game-winner as the Elliot Lake Wildcats held on to edge the Soo Eagles 2-1 Sunday night in a low-scoring Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Centennial Arena.

Neither side would be able to find the back of the net in a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

Special teams allowed the Eagles to get on the board first as Chris Murphy collected his third of the season at 12:54 during a man advantage opportunity in the second.

Elliot Lake drew level with under three minutes to go in the frame as Curtis Rawn notched his team-best fifth tally at 17:14.

The Wildcats Jacklin would then pot the difference maker early in the third with an unassisted effort.

Matt Kostiw made 32 saves to record the win for 3-3-0-0 Elliot Lake while Sean Angle had 28 stops in defeat for 1-3-1-0 Sault Ste. Marie.
