Team NOJHL ready for Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge

CORNWALL, Ont. – Team Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is in to Cornwall, Ont. tonight in preparation for the 10-team Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge, which runs Monday through Wednesday at the Benson Centre.

Following a mid-afternoon practice Sunday in Powassan, the club boarded their charter bus and made their way to Cornwall to rest up for their opening game Monday morning at 10 a.m. vs. Maritime Hockey League North.

Game 2 of the day will see the NOJHL side facing off against the Central Canada Hockey League’s Robinson Division Selects at 1:20 p.m.

Two more tilts will be on the club’s slate Tuesday beginning with a 1:20 p.m. match-up with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Coffey all-stars.

They will then wrap-up round robin play at 8 p.m. Tuesday as they take on OJHL Hawerchuk.

Of the 10 teams taking part competing for the title, all are from the five eastern-based leagues from the Canadian Junior Hockey League.

Joining Team NOJHL will be four squads from the OJHL, two apiece from the CCHL and MHL along with one team from the Quebec Junior Hockey League.

The top four clubs from each of the two divisions at the ECASC will advance to quarter-final play Wednesday morning.

From there the remaining four squads will tangle in semifinal action that afternoon and early evening with the two remaining sides vying for the title Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

The format at the event will feature each game consisting of two 20-minute periods.

Should round robin games be tied after regulation, a shootout will be used to determine a winner.

Playoff round contests will use a five-minute overtime if needed, followed by a shootout if required.

Winning teams in regulation will earn three points for regulation victories and pick-up two points if victorious in a shootout.

Losing clubs get no points for regulation losses and one for shootout setbacks.

Every Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge game will be streamed online via HockeyTV.com.

The NOJHL’s best-ever finish in the five-year history of the ECASC was advancing to the semifinals back in 2014.
