BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers saw a pair of players extend streaks Saturday as part of a 5-2 victory over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Saturday at Blind River Community Centre.
After a scoreless first frame, Blind River got going offensively early in the second stanza as Ethan Boyd notched his initial NOJHL tally.
Then, Beavers’ captain Caleb Serre continued his strong start to the season as he buried his team-leading 10th goal of the season, which also helped him notch a tally in seven straight outings to begin the campaign.
Helping set-up the Serre power play marker was Justin Mauro, who ran an assist and point streak to seven in succession.
Adding to the scoring parade in the frame was Makenzie Ableson at 16:30 as he registered his first NOJHL goal.
The Wildcats would get on the board 7:11 into the third as Connor Taylor helped set-up Eric Vanderhoff for his fourth of the season.
Continuing to battle back, Vanderhoff added another five and a half minutes later as his fifth overall made it a one-goal game.
However, Blind River came right back getting that back at 13:39 with Devon Savignac’s sixth supplying some insurance.
They then sealed the win in the late going on Maxwell Tucker’s first marker in the league rounded out the scoring.
Shots on net also favoured the Beavers, 46-26 with Wyatt Courchaine picking up the win and Parker Simpson the loss.
