ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Mihali See scored twice to help lift the Soo Eagles to a 4-1 road win over the Elliot Lake Wildcats Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Centennial Arena.
A solid start helped put the Eagles in flight as they connected twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead.
Kyle Quinn opened the scoring just past the seven-minute mark of the contest at even strength before See scored on the power play with 31 seconds left in the frame.
Elliot Lake got themselves on the board 14 minutes into the middle stanza on a Noah Minns effort to make it 2-1 game after two periods of play.
However Sault Ste. Marie helped secure the road victory and the first win in league play for new head coach Doug Laprade by picking up insurance markers in the third off the sticks of Mikey Butcher and See.
Caleb Sauer started for the Soo and notched his initial NOJHL triumph while making 19 saves along the way.
Greg Moon in the Wildcats net suffered the defeat while handling 25 of the 29 shots he saw.
