SUDBURY, Ont. – Teams from across the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) will face-off in the 3rd Annual NOJHL Showcase at Greater Sudbury’s Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex Tuesday, October 9 and Wednesday, October 10.
This two-day event will feature all 12 NOJHL teams competing, with each game counting towards the overall regular season standings.
The NOJHL Showcase is also a chance for the league to show its community support once again as 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Canadian Mental Health Association – Sudbury/Manitoulin (CMHA-S/M) Branch.
“Our annual Showcase has become an exciting tradition that gives hockey fans and scouts the opportunity to see all 12 of our member clubs compete over the course of two days,” stated NOJHL Commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“We’re also proud to continue our ongoing work with the CMHA by donating all proceeds from tickets sales to the local Sudbury/Manitoulin branch,” added Mazzuca.
Last season the annual showcase raised over $5,000 to support mental health services offered through CMHA- S/M.
Everyone in attendance also had the opportunity to learn more about mental health services in their community from local CMHA staff.
“Thanks to the NOJHL for its ongoing support of CMHA mental health programs and services,” offered CMHA Sudbury-Manitoulin CEO Marion Quigley
“We are grateful for their continued support and leadership in promoting positive mental health for the benefit of people in communities across northern Ontario.”
A strong supporter of overall player development, the NOJHL is entering its fourth season with CMHA’s Talk Today program, one of the most comprehensive mental health programs for amateur sports in Canada.
Over the past three seasons over 550 players, 16 coaches/managers, seven billets/parents, and 22 office staff members have received safeTALK training.
SafeTALK is an accredited training program that teaches individuals the importance of mental health and how to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide.
