ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Boosted by three-point performances from Jake Desando and Max Griffioen, the Hearst Lumberjacks skated to a 7-1 decision over the Elliot Lake Wildcats Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee at Centennial Arena.
The Hearst power play helped them start well as Justin Miron and Desnado both scored on the man advantage to give the guests a two-tally cushion after one period of play.
Up a skater themselves early in the middle session, the Wildcats got one back off the stick of Connor Taylor as his ninth of the season put the home side on the board.
Regrouping, the Lumberjacks countered with three goals before the stanza was complete as Griffioen, Max Messier and Alex Cannon all found the back of the net to put them up 5-1 through two.
In the third, Sebastien Doucet and Desando capped off the road victory as they both connected offensively to round out the day’s scoring.
Rahul Bola made 19 saves to record the win for Hearst while Elliot Lake netminder Jonathan Lemaire was pelted with 65 shots against in defeat.
