BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Wyatt Gibson tallied twice, including notching the game-winner, to help lift the Blind River Beavers to a 4-1 victory over the Elliot Lake Vikings in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Sunday matinee at Blind River Community Centre.
The Beavers began the scoring 16 minutes into the match-up by clicking on a power play.
On the marker, Jack Kruiderink powered his way into the Vikings’ zone down the left wing then fired a feed across to Gibson, who snapped a shot past netminder Brogan Colquhoun.
Heading to the second stanza, some quality stops by Colquhoun kept it a one-goal game with half a contest to play.
Blind River eventually added another at 13:06 when Gibson banged in a rebound from the right side off a point-blank Levi Lux chance.
Adding some insurance in the late going, Keenan Conn picked up his first NOJHL goal by scoring with a shot from between his legs, off a set-up from Tysen Sheridan.
Dashing the Beavers’ Bronx Bodnar’s shutout bid with 2:22 to go, Ivan Kedrov moved to the middle from the side boards and sizzled a rising attempt high over the goaltender’s shoulder for his initial league marker.
The home side secured the result though when Aaron Dukeshire picked off a pass in the neutral zone and went in a put his chance into an empty net to wrap things up.
