ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Elliot Lake Red Wings announced Sunday that they have named Tanner Bowditch as the club’s new head coach.
No stranger to the NOJHL, the 26-year-old Uxbridge, Ont., product spent both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns, skating at forward in the league with the then Elliot Lake Wildcats, Mattawa Blackhawks and Iroquois Falls Eskis.
Appearing in 95 career contests, Bowditch was a solid offensive contributor as he potted 30 goals, four of which were game-winners, and dished out 44 assists in that span for a total of 74 points.
Getting into coaching, he was an assistant with the Cochrane Crunch in 2019-20 before joining former Crunch bench boss, Ryan Leonard, with the Renfrew Wolves (CCHL) back in March of 2020 as both assistant coach and assistant general manager, a position he held right up to his current appointment with the Red Wings.
Bowditch will join Elliot Lake associate coach Adam Lamarre behind the club’s bench for the 2021-22 NOJHL campaign.
The Red Wings will be in action Sunday afternoon as they are in Blind River for a 2 p.m. matinee vs. the Beavers.
