Falk’s 1st lifts Wildcats past Rapids
NOELVILLE, Ont. – Tyler Falk’s first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League goal 7:20 into the third period was the decider as the Elliot Lake Wildcats pulled out a narrow 3-2 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday at Noelville Arena.
William Michaud did give French River the lead as he picked up the lone marker of the opening frame at 1:43.
Brett Jacklin tied it for Elliot Lake early in the second while teammate David Elford put the Wildcats in front at 12:09.
The Rapids came out strong to begin the third and were rewarded with the tying tally off the stick of Michaud 55 seconds into the stanza.
It stayed 2-2 until Falk supplied the game-winner for Elliot Lake as they held on from there to secure the victory.
Evan Spencer doled out a pair of assists to aid the Wildcats cause.
Matt Kostiw made 25 saves to pick up with the win while Korlan Vader did all he could in the Rapids net as he was peppered with 65 shots in defeat.
