Elliot Lake erupts for 3 in 3rd to down Eagles
ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – Down by two entering the third period, the Elliot Lake Wildcats erupted for three goals in under a 10-minute span to down the Soo Eagles 3-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday at Centennial Arena.
Neither side would score in the opening stanza with the Eagles’ Jack Deines making 12 stops and the Wildcats’ Justin Richer saving nine.
Sault Ste. Marie would get on the board 8:43 into the middle session as Jacob Palmerio picked up his 17th of the season.
The visitors then made it 2-0 at 12:43 when Roman Gaudet picked up his first during a Soo man advantage opportunity.
Elliot Lake began their comeback 8:18 into the third on an Evan Spencer effort.
William Bucsis then levelled the proceedings, while on the power play, with 5:23 to go.
The Wildcats then finished off their late rally getting the game-winner from Brett Jacklin at 18:11 to pull out the win.
Nick Long contributed to the Elliot Lake comeback by dishing out a pair of assists.
Richer finished up with 37 saves to pick up the decision in net for the Wildcats while Deines saw 39 attempts in defeat for the Eagles.
