SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Recently acquired Soo Eagles goaltender Kameron Ragon was spotless in his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League debut Saturday as he handled every shot he faced in shutting out the Elliot Lake Red Wings 6-0 at Pullar Stadium.
The Eagles took flight in the latter portion of the first period when they scored three times in just over a minute and a half to send them on their way.
Chase Tallaire began the offensive outburst at 14:59 as he took a Jack Paweski pass from behind the net and wired a shot over the blocker of Elliot Lake starter Sean Guerin.
Coming right back, Bryce Grandboise made it 2-0 just 32 seconds later as he stuffed in the rebound off a Michael Starzomski effort from the left point.
Sault Ste. Marie then added another on the next shift that saw Jack Morton collect his team-leading 18th tally as he wheeled out front and into the slot before making an extra move that allowed him snap a shot into the left-hand corner.
The Eagles power play then went to work in the second stanza as they worked it around before Paweski chipped a chance over a sprawling Guerin to put the home side up by four at 12:38.
Staying 4-0 Soo into the third, the hosts added to their lead with a Kenny Belanger Jr., man advantage marker as he tipped a Lane Janssen shot from the right point.
Michael Szlag then put an end to Guerin’s night 45 seconds later as his eighth of the season was notched by whipping in a cross-ice feed from Colin Handy.
Red Wings’ back-up Cameron Smith then entered and went the rest of the way for the visitors.
Ragon and his teammates did the rest in securing the home-ice victory as the Eagles improved to 16-12-2-0 on the season.
With the loss, the Red Wings fell to 12-18-1-1 overall.
